Franklin makes landfall along Yucatan Peninsula

Tropical Storm Franklin has made landfall along the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico as a moderate tropical storm.

Gradual weakening is expected over the next 12 hrs or so as the storm traverses the peninsula; however Franklin is expected to reemerge in the Bay of Campeche later in the day on Tuesday.

Once back over water, strengthening is expected again and Franklin may make a run at becoming the first hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. It should be noted that the Bay of Campeche is notorious for rapidly developing storms due to the warm water that is readily available and the shape of the Mexican coastline.

A final landfall is expected Wednesday night between Tampico and Veracruz, Mexico as a Category 1 hurricane.
